š° The Investor Ice Age: Mongoliaās Foreign Investment Freeze
Talk of attracting foreign investors? Endless. Results? Scarce.
Mongolia boasts 9,350 active foreign-invested businesses, but with over 5,400 shutting down since 1990, the track record isnāt great. The country received $3.5 billion in investments last year, but $2.5 billion came from Oyu Tolgoiāthe mining giant still tangled in tax disputes.
For a decade, investors have called out Mongoliaās unpredictable tax policies, and despite government promises, the situation hasnāt improved. The Investor Protection Council, meant to address these concerns, has received over 1,100 complaintsāmost unresolved.
Legal battles, corruption, and inconsistent policies continue to push investors away. Until Mongolia offers real stability, foreign capital will remain wary.

š Inflation Nears Double DigitsāWallets Beware!
Mongoliaās inflation is heating up! Prices surged 9.6% in January 2025, climbing 1.4% in just a month. This marks seven straight months of rising costs, putting the Bank of Mongoliaās 6% inflation target at serious risk.
Food prices lead the way, with meat up 2,000-3,000 MNT per kilo. In response, the government has capped meat exports and is boosting local supply. Meanwhile, imported goods and rising energy costs are adding extra pressure.
With inflation nearing double digits, the central bank may be forced to raise interest rates. Buckle up, Mongoliaāitās going to be a pricey year!

šļø Corruption: A Small Step Forward, But a Long Road Ahead
Good news! Mongolia has climbed seven places in the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index, now ranking 114th out of 180 countries. Bad news? Corruption is still a major issue, with a low score of 33 points.
The index evaluates misuse of public funds, government accountability, and legal protections for whistleblowers. While the global average is 43, two-thirds of countries still struggle with corruption.
Mongoliaās rise is promising, but unless anti-corruption efforts become more than just talk, lasting change remains out of reach.
